Echoes or Presence – The case of the Early Neolithic in the Central Balkans.

Prof. Nenad N. Tasic
University of Belgrade

The author reviews the data concerning the earliest phases of the Neolithic of the Central Balkans and searches for the origins of this phenomenon from a different perspective. He argues in favour of a significant spread of population from the Anatolian plateau and that the process of Neolithisation in the Balkans was much more dynamic than was previously thought. Archaeological materials, settlement patterns, theoretical approaches, climate records and analyses of stylistic motifs are presented in support of this interpretation.
